Tunes for Tuesday – Say Hey

Nothing hugely profound here today. A love song. And I know this is a love song for “a boy and a girl” but every time I hear it I’m reminded of my sweet, adorable angel – my daughter. The song is Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti & Spearhead.

So as he sings in the beginning – “This one goes out to you and yours worldwide!”

“I say hey I be gone today
But I be back around the way” – I can’t believe I actually thought I couldn’t afford to stay home with my sweet baby girl when she first arrived. I know now, 17 yrs. later, that we didn’t NEED the things we had then. I feel guilty that I worked part-time because I thought I “had” to. But I so loved picking her up, every afternoon and feeling her sweet hug.

“Seems like everywhere I go
The more I see
the less I know
But I know one thing
That I love you” – In some ways I feel wiser in my “old” age and in other ways I’m humbly reminded of what I don’t know. But I will always love my baby girl. With every fiber of my being. Forever.

“I’ve been a lot of places all around the way
I’ve seen a lot joy and I’ve seen a lot of pain
but I don’t want to write a love song for the world” – Sometimes we need to slow down. Stop. And concentrate on what is right in front of us. Who needs us right now. In this moment.

“And when I looked into your eyes I knew it was true” – I will never forget the moment when she was placed in my arms for the very first time. We were at the airport. Many passengers from her flight waited to witness our homecoming. They clapped as her escort placed her in my arms and her dad and I cried tears of joy. That moment my life began again.

“It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see the less I know
But I know one thing for sure
I love you (3x)” – I love you. I love you. I love you.

  1. Oh, this is beautiful!
And you’re absolutely right. I’ll never regret a moment of the time I was home with my kids. Ever.

  2. What a sweet, sweet post!

  3. So sweet! I do treasure the time home with my kids, but for me it helps make the time home more sweet when I get out and work part time. So I’m back at it a few days a week. Today is a day off thought I took Wes Ice skating and then we went to dunn brothers for cookies and warm chocolate milk. Yummm. Yes, so sweet.

  4. Ahhh Your post brought tears to my eyes!

  5. What a great way to finish my night, reggae rap and reading your blog. While I have many regrets, staying home with my kids is not one of them.

  6. Good choice! My daughter LOVES this song . . . every time we get in the car she asks me to pull it up on the iPod and then proceeds to shake her little tush as much as she can in her carseat!
