My Life In Sound Bites

#2son – Mom? I’m going to be rich when I grow up.

Jane – Sweetie, the most important thing is that you’re happy.

#2son – Well, I’m sure going to be happy when I’m rich.

(sigh)

________

#1daughter – You just don’t get it, Mom. Just leave me alone!

(Jane turns to walk away)

#1daughter – Noooo! (reaching out with both arms) Don’t go!!!

________

(And on a more serious note…)

(Upon seeing the cover of the latest Time magazine at Barnes and Noble two days ago. Please go here to view , if you haven’t seen it already. I’ve decided I don’t want that distressing picture on this post today.)

Husband – You know, the same people who are protesting our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan are the same people who would be up in arms if we weren’t there ‘doing something’ about the appalling and horrific treatment of women. It’s a mess either way.

Don’t forget! Write your post about blogging to help me celebrate my one year in Blog World. We’ll all meet back here in 10 days to link, learn and maybe have a few laughs!

Oh boy – your husband is so right. You know how I feel about the treatment of women in this world of ours – I’m constanty enraged, frustrated and upset about what goes on and yet still we all turn a blind eye. Remember the recent story of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani? She only came to the world’s attention because of the dedication of her son. Under shariah law other women have been and still will be stoned to death in Iran.

  2. Your husband is right. And wow, that cover is shocking. And sad. She is a brave woman.

  3. Hah! Your son is on to something. People who say money can’t buy happiness are often those without money.

That cover is horrific, which is precisely why it needs to be on Time because more people need to be aware of the atrocities that are out there. And hopefully it will help affect the necessary changes to improve the lives of those who are less fortunate.

  4. Very fun post, Jane.

    And that picture is horrible.

The bites with your kids? So cute.

The one with the Time magazine? I went to see the pictures and started crying. I didn’t expect that. It’s such a mess. All of it.

  6. Sounds like a typical conversation between mom and kid. 😉

As for the other, I admit, I sometimes avoid checking out things like these – I almost clicked for the picture, but when I read Mckenzie’s comment I decided to pass.

Hope you have a great week, and congrats on your one year of blogging!

  7. The sound bites are wonderful.

The picture of that girl, horrendous.

  8. Would you say they caught you coming and going today…and your Son teach him the value of saving for YOUR old age. Not sure if I will go see the cover or not..I usually stay at arms length from news coverage…I can imagine, tho (

  9. Love your sound bites.

The picture, not so much. When I was young I charged forward, speaking my mind, reading and watching the news, protesting that which offended me. Now I feel like a voice that gets lost in the wind and I’ve learned to practice being an ostrich. Not the best way to approach life, but when you cry out and no one listens. . . .

  10. I hadn’t seen that picture before I clicked your link. My heart hurts that we live in a world where that kind of hatred happens.

At least your sound bites didn’t include the screeching feedback of tantrums.

(And that cover…I’ll be thinking of her all day.)

  12. Your kids are adorable.

And you’re right about that cover, as is your husband about the situation, which leaves most of us at a loss for how to rectify anything much less how human beings can do such harm to each other.

  13. Your daughter reminds me that I still feel like a teenager inside.

  14. That conversation with your son? I’ve had the same one with my daughter!

  15. I love this little sound bites from your children. I think children’s one liners are packed with so much intention.
